I agree that the use of profanity in this book is essential. Profanity is used thoughout this book to realistically state what is going through the soldiers' minds. War is not pleasant, just as the harsh language used in this book is not either. The author purposely used profanity to give the readers an accurate understanding of life during the war. Without profanity, this book would be, as Emily said, unrealistic.
